Review content:
This review is about service, not food. Why? Because try as we might, we were not able to actually get any food. To begin, Zapotec was recommended by some fellow ferry-riders on the way into Vineyard Haven - which is great because we always like going with a recommendation. Our first attempt at dining was while strolling Oak Bluffs (two couples with one infant each). Ok, it doesn't open until 5pm, but no worries, we'll come back.. but oh! it's kid-friendly but we couldn't bring our strollers inside. Not even to fold them in the corner. Hmm. But it was suggested that we could leave our expensive strollers OUTSIDE.. unattended.. unsecured. No thanks. We were a little put-off but we were also determined to try this Mexican eatery before our week was up. Try 2: We decided that if we couldn't get to Zapotec, we'd bring Zapotec to us. A call to the restaurant confirmed that take-out was available and that most dishes would be ready in 10 minutes. Great! I informed the hostess that I would come by to place the order in person. Less than an hour later, I arrive with my buddy to place the order only to be told that since the restaurant was now full, they could not accept any take-out orders; but we were welcome to eat at the bar (boy, wouldn't our wives be pleased). After explaining our predicament and my previous phone call, the hostess checked with the kitchen and then explained that we could wait, but our order would have to follow all other patron orders and it would be at least 30 minutes. We were determined so we took her offer - upon which she immediately revisited the kitchen and then told us it would actually be at least 2 hours and that they couldn't help us (mind you no other patrons had come in). As good guests of the island, we remained cordial during this exchange but it may have been shock at this haphazardly run establishment. In the end we ended up at the competition, Sharky's, which served good Mexican food and had a great atmosphere... and take-out!
Pros: Looks fun; in the center of Oak Bluffs and easy to get to.
Cons: Service seemed clueless and not helpful with a devil-may-care attitude.
