Review content:
I took in an older motorhome for a winterization special. They found some problems. They then spent the next year or so telling me every time I called that the coach would be next-in-line to get worked on. When I went in to see what the deal was for the third or fourth time, they gave me a $2,000 invoice for the work and said it was ready. When I got it home, the generator that they charged me to rebuild wouldn't start. I looked it over and could plainly see that all the nuts and bolts still had the factory paint on them. Nothing had been touched on the generator. I called and was told by the service manager that I was lying about the generator. I came in to talk to the owner, and while waiting asked the guys in the shop what would be involved in rebuilding my generator, and was told they didn't even make the parts to rebuild that model anymore. They would just replace it with a new one, because rebuilding it would be more expensive. This was confirmed by the owner's father, who was in the shop working on some stuff.
When I presented this to the service manager, he totally freaked out on me and told me I was a liar. I couldn't believe how he acted. I was convinced something was seriously wrong with the situation. I called American Express--which I had used to pay for the 'service'--and told them my problem. They initiated a dispute inquiry to which Pappy's never replied, so I ended up getting my $2000 back. Thank you AMEX.
I'm pretty sure they never responded to the dispute with American Express because they knew they never did the work they charged me for. And when I looked at the invoice more carefully, I realized they hadn't ordered or charged me for any generator parts, so how could they have rebuilt it?
Oh, and when I finally did get my coach back, there were empty whiskey bottles and dead birds and cat feces in the rig.
The service manager just said: ""we aren't responsible""
I think he summed it up perfectly.
A plague on them.
