Review content:
I went to Regency Superior on Euclid around 3pm. When I approached the store there were no employees visible. I rang the doorbell and a man came out to buzz me in.
I asked for an appraisal on my coins and told the man that I was interested in selling them. He sounded like he was uncertain as to how to help me. I felt like I was a burden. He told me he would have to go get someone who was more knowledgeable in the coin department. I waited alone for a minute then a man came out to ask if I needed help. I told him that I felt like I was interrupting and asked if I needed to make an appointment first. He reassured me that I was in the right place and asked if I would like something to drink. I felt a little better after that.
The president (David M. Kols) popped out of his office and said ""I've got 4 lines going [on the phone] so someone else is going to have to help him."" He pointed to me as he said that. He seemed very annoyed with his situation.
Then another man came out who could actually help me. He was an older gentleman and was super helpful. He showed me the book value of my coins and told me a little bit about how the company operates. I told him that I would be interested in selling the coins to them. He went to get the President who would have to do the appraisals.
A minute later Mr. David M. Kols, the President, came out to look at my coins. He opened the first box and tossed the lid of the box on the counter. I was taken aback by his haste and carelessness of merchandise that was left as an inheritance from my late grandfather.
The nice gentleman who helped me earlier told Mr. Kols the value of my coins as stated by the current price guide. Mr. Kols responded saying ""I don't give a s**t what the guide says.""
At this point I wanted to take my business elsewhere but I stayed to see what kind of price he would offer. Once he had see my coins and after he chose not to make eye contact with me, he took him and an employee into his office to come up with a total.
He came back after 5 minutes and quoted me a price that was just over half of what the pricing guide had quoted.
I chose to accept the offer as the coins I were selling were just a fraction of what my grandfather had left me. Mr. Kols typed up the contract for the sale. I filled it out and he went to go make a copy of it and my drivers license. He returned and tossed my drivers license to me. I couldn't believe that he was being so unprofessional. He then went to write a check for me.
He returned and was a bit more personable. He asked questions about the other coins that I had. He referenced where I was from as maybe to relate to me. I believe his attitude changed because he realized how much money he was making off of this transaction.
I recommend taking your business elsewhere. There are other great coin dealers in the St. Louis area.
In Mr. Kols defense, I will say that I have had bad days too. I have days when I get annoyed and angry, but I would hope that he would have been more professional about it. I did nothing wrong, I came to give him business, and yet I was treated as if I was causing him a problem. I won't be going back to Regency-Superior, unless I hear that they get a new president.
Pros: Classy office
Cons: The President (David M. Kols) was very rude.
