This review will probably be lengthy, but I can think of no better use of my time that to speak about what a privilege it is to deal with Brant Newman and his crew from Xtra Hand. Not only are they great contractors - they are willing to step up and take jobs that others refuse. Fill in the gaps. This is how they first came to us. My husband and I moved into an Eichler home with my mother-in-law. We needed garage door openers installed, but Eichler garage doors slide open horizontally, not vertically. We called six - yes, six - garage door companies in the area and all six refused to even look at it. They would install new doors or nothing. Well, we were set on keeping the original doors, because they were part of the Eichler vision and blended so nicely with the facade. Brant agreed to come out - he checked it out, took some pictures and - armed with his imagination, experience and a few pictures posted on a blog from someone who had done a similar install - devised a system from scratch, sent his crew over and made it happen. It was a thrilling moment when those doors opened - I think the crew was as excited as we were if not more. Incidentally, all the members of his team are fantastic, easy going and very hard working - so props to Adam, Manuel and Kenny - the guys who quickly performed this work for us. And what did it all cost? About 50 of the total cost for new garage doors. Needless to say, I was sold - Xtra Hand built us a new fence, the sweetest little paved nook for our garbage cans (shout out to Jeevan, who did all the digging - tirelessly, for about two days), updated water lines and airgaps for our new appliances and even managed to move a 45 year old built in Eichler cabinet to a new location unharmed. Genius! Xtra Hand brings something else - they are so nice and so gracious and so dedicated that they feel more like honored guests than just workman - I'm excited when they arrive, can't wait to offer beverages, chat, make sure they are okay, etc. I treat these guys with respect because I know that my husband and mother-in-law and I will be accorded the same respect. And so will our home, as they work on it, improve it and make it more liveable and beautiful. And they are not done - there is a running list of Xtra Hand projects that we will get to over time and it feels great to employ a contractor that inspires such confidence and admiration.
