After finding out during at a routine cleaning/exam that my 'loose filling' was actually an abscess, I was forced to seek out an endodontist in the area for an expert root canal. (They cost a bit more, but you DON'T want to mess around with an abscess-Its beyond a regular root canal, and beyond the scope of a general dentist!) Luckily, I found Dr. Rami Etessami! The office was quite something! It was expertly decorated with comfortable chairs, a coffee station and pictures and documents framed all over the walls. The treatment rooms were even nicer, and the dental chair itself looked and felt like something out of a spa! This certainly appeals to an individual like myself with extreme dental anxiety who tends to cry, not just in the dental chair, but on the phone with receptionists before the appointment! Indeed I did, and should also mention that Dr. Etessami's receptionist was beyond exceptional at dealing with an overly emotional, erratic phone call from an inquiring patient:) I'm sure the hardest thing for medical personnel to deal with is emotional patients- Dr. Etessami and his team make it look easy. During my consultation with him yesterday, after additional xrays, it turns out the abscess is deeper than suspected by my general dentist. Oh no! Dr. Etassami immediately put me at ease with his charming and friendly chairside manner. His personality is warm and fatherly, making you feel like a member of his family rather than a patient. (including a very warm, long and convincing demand for why I must quit smoking cigarettes immediately:) He definitely and truly cares for your well being. One of the bigger pluses was, unlike other dentists, he was not afraid to talk plainly about finances (most other dentists tend to filter any such potentially uncomfortable inquiries and conversations through their receptionists). He was extremely sympathetic to my currently poor financial situation, graciously pricing the procedure at a substantial discount, and also waving the consultation and xray fees. This made me feel like he genuinely cared about my abscess and not just about money. All over the waiting room is photos of celebrities who have gotten Etessami root canals- Clearly he can charge whatever he likes, but CHOSE not to, in order to help out a person of lesser means. This speaks WORLDS to Dr. Etessami's great character, and his genuine love of humankind. After the appointment, he sent me off with an appointment in only 2 days for the actual procedure, and a little tote bag with some 800mg motrin and a prescription for antibiotics to hold me over till Thursday. Thursday (tomorrow, 4/8/10) is the Big Day. I will update my review perhaps in a week or so to share the outcome of the root canal surgery, although I'm confident it will be easy as pie. The only nerve racking thing right now is my TMJ condition...Opening my mouth wide and for long periods causes great, GREAT pain in my jaw. To be continued... Pros: Friendly, Open, Comfortable & Accommodating Cons: No Parking Validation, Located At Busy Intersection
