Review content:
After having taken my VW TDI to a local shop in Portland for a slow leak and being told I'd need a new injection pump for well over $1000, I decided to look around online for a better option. Thinking that my use of biodiesel may have something to do with the leak, I searched around and came across greaseworks dot org. Boy did I find what I was looking for!
On their site, where I found they specialize in biodiesel and SVO-related work, they specifically stated "" We have also seen many TDIs coming into the shop with injection pump seals that are leaking and need to be replaced/updated. Please contact us if this happens to your car as you do not need a new IP, and we can save you at least $1000 in unnecessary repair bills.""
I called and spoke with Justin, the owner. Super friendly, he worked out an appointment time with me to drive from Portland to Corvallis for the job. Two days later, I arrived at his shop (next to his home), and he kindly drove me into town to hang out at a local cafe (his recommendation, a great cafe). He got the work done faster than I had anticipated, and ended up charging exactly what he had quoted - $245!
He explained the repairs he had done and answered the few questions I had.
The only downside to greaseworks is that they're in Corvallis, so I had to do the roundtrip drive from Portland for the service. But considering how much money I saved, not to mention knowing I was supporting a honest and biodiesel-friendly mechanic, it was more than worth it!
If you're into alternative fuels, definitely check out the website; there's tons of good info on there.
Pros: Informative, speedy, fair price, honest
Cons: Wish they were in Portland!
