Review content:
As a business owner, I thought I would help support a local business rather than go to a megastore for a simple purchase of a new video card; wow, what a MITAKE on my part!!
First of all, he tried to feed me a lot of misinformation, suggesting I needed a new motherboard (to replace my 5 month old, pretty much loaded Dell Vostro). What he didn't know, is that I know enough about computers that I knew he was full of it. After having to have a conversation with my company's IT guy, it was determined that MIT had what I needed, a PCI video card with a DVI output, $59.99. I knew it was overpriced but again, wanted to support a local business, and I was already there. Again, mistake on my part.
After spending 2 hours trying to get this card to work in anything but standard VGA mode (the manufacturer had no Win 7 drivers for this model card) I gave up. I then looked at the documentation which said it would be compatible with Windows XP (when available). NOT ONLY DID THEY OVERCHARGE ME, THEY SOLD ME A 9 YEAR OLD PRODUCT!!
This morning, I returned it and was informed I would be charged a 15% restocking fee and was promptly chided for my displeasure by the sales associate (the same person that told me I needed a new motherboard) by informing me that he didn't have to take it back at all!!! Really?? Well, I don't have to patronize you. After talking to my IT department to start spreading the word about this disreputable business, I found out that my company's IT department does business with the Fowler Ave store (that was until today).
By the way, I bought a NEW video card at Staples, came home, installed it, turned on my computer, and voila, it worked. I will never get those 2 hours back.
I told everyone I spoke to at Staples about my experience and interestingly, the sales associate had a bad experience with these people as well. Hmmm, pattern perhaps?
I am not one to post a review, have never even done it before but the word needs to get out about this disreputable business. I want the word out because the average person will not know that they are being lied to in an attempt to make more money. These are the people with the guy on BBD blvd hold a sign offering a free computer checkup. I guarantee you, there WILL be something wrong with your computer and it will cost you more money than it needs to.
THESE PEOPLE ARE DISHONEST AND OPPORTUNISTIC. DO NOT LET YOURSELF BE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF. GO TO SOMEONE REPUTABLE.
