Review content:
The rooms were comfortable if not terribly clean. There was a red sticky smudge with a huge dust bunny prominent on the front corner of the ledge in the living room under the main window which remained there our entire stay. Don't expect the cookies they tell you they make every night until you smell them, they only had time to make them one of the four nights we stayed. The room was not vacuumed during our stay, and one day the maid did not come at all. (Evidently when a staff member is out they have no backup and their job just goes undone.) While I didn't really mind doing my own dishes we also had to deal with a dishwasher full of dishes from a previous guest.
Small things that added up to general neglect included: Clocks not set to anything remotely resembling local time, romantic candles with no way to light them, insufficient lighting to see into the closet at night, one room the overhead light was out and when mentioned they said - yeah they'd been having trouble with it. There were mixes and bags to make hot drinks but not enough of any one thing for the three of us in our party to have the same thing. Many rooms are in a separate building, our suite could only be reached by an outdoor uncovered stairs - fortunately it had good rails because the bottom three steps were icy. The presidential suite has no fireplace.
Breakfast was very good two mornings out of three - the third time we would have much preferred a simpler dish well done to the overcomplicated one she didn't have the equipment or ability to make. The recommendation to an overpriced obvious tourist trap of a restaurant (The Bear Cafe) was also not appreciated.
The view was lovely, and the pond with the ducks and swans was nice. Some rooms didn't appear to have as good a view though the grounds are pretty. This was definitely not the service we expected from the price or the reviews we read.
