Review content:
For a little history on my BMW... I have had some problems in the past with oil leaks and excessive oil consumption for about 4 years now, five trips to the dealership have given nothing but, ""this model consumes oil, so this is normal"". Only when the extended warranty ended did they tell me that it was both valve cover gaskets. I took a look myself and found that it was only two rotted hoses in the back of the engine.
I have just driven over 1000 miles to come home for the holidays, about 400 miles out, I started having problems. Engine running rough, Service Engine Soon light etc. I brought it in to see Jason after reading reviews and can testify that this man knows how to troubleshoot. There are a lot of mechanics out there that can replace broken parts, but the number of talented diagnosticians is extremely limited. Not only did Jason find out the current problems, he quickly diagnosed and found all the problems with oil leaks, gasket problems and component failures that have eluded the dealership mechanics for over 4 years. Bear in mind, I just paid $1800 in $100,000 mile maintenance. None of the problems that my engine had were new except the ignition coil failure that caused the misfire that caused the SES light and the rough running. Jason informed me of all the items that he found faulty and recommended the repairs and quoted me a fair price. As he began taking apart the engine to perform the repairs, he found several other serious issues that really needed to be addressed. He recommended repairing them because since the labor was already being done to disassemble the engine it would be more cost effective then going back in later. This is a common tactic among mechanics to increase the amount of money they earn on repair work, except that Jason physically brought me over and showed me the leaks that he found and explained what they were and how they affected performance and may lead to future problems. He also took digital photos of what he found before and after the repairs were completed. All the faulty removed parts were placed in a bin for me to keep/inspect/or throw away at my discretion. Jason at JP Importz it the most honest mechanic I have ever heard of. I compared his cost estimates with what the dealership charges, I saved nearly half the cost in parts and I have no idea how much more in labor the dealership would have charged. When you find an honest mechanic, you keep him. When you find an honest mechanic that is as capable as Jason is, you tell everyone else about him because it is practically a miracle.
