Review content:
We stayed at High Fields Farm at Fairhill Farm Country Vacation Rentals for one week in late August 2011 and then returned for a long 4-day weekend in early October because we loved the house, the views, the peacefulness, and because Alton was such a wonderful host. On our first visit, my family (2 adults and 2 young girls ages 2 and 4) rented High Fields Farm while my parents and my sister's family (2 adults and 2 high-school age boys) rented Alton's 2 cottages at Fairhill Farm which is just a half-mile down the road or a walk over the hill and through the pasture if you are adventurous. High Fields Farm was perfect for everyone to get together for meals, happy hour, swimming, and to look at the stars in the evening. Here are our highlights of High Fields Farm and the surrounding area - The property is very clean and very well maintained - The views in the daytime are breathtaking - 270 degree view of the mountains with beautiful pastures fwith cows and miniature horses littering the remaining hillsides behind the house - The views of sunset and the stars in the evening are also spectacular. Every evening we spent at least one hour star-gazing - The kitchen / dining area is very modern, very large and very open which is great for a large get-together with family or friends - All of us loved the miniature horses. Our 2 young girls loved feeding them carrots through the pasture fence steps away from the house - Alton has outfitted the property with all of the different yard games you could ask for from croquet to badminton to even a basketball hoop as well as a pool table - The swimming pool at High Fields is very nice with great views and a very pretty gazebo that provides some shade when it gets too sunny and hot. - Our girls loved the ""tree fort"" as well as the impeccably maintained swimming pool at Fairhill Farm - My parents and sisters' family also really liked their cottages at Fairhill Farm which were likewise very well maintained and very clean - South River Road is a beautiful, winding and flat road (until the end), perfect for bike rides And lastly but also important was the fact that Alton was really a wonderful host. We were greeted with bottles of wine from local Virginia vineyards. He checked in on each of us once or twice and was happy to spend time talking to each of my family members. I cannot recommend High Fields Farm enough to families or couples that are looking for a beautiful and relaxing get-away vacation.
