Review content:
The building of St. Alphonsus Church is an outstanding example of South German church architecture, patterned after the Cathedral of St. Stephen in Vienna. St. alphonsus was designed by the noted architect, Robert Cary Long. The church is of brick with cast iron trimmings. It is 154 feet long, 68 feet high, with the nave center aisle ceiling 50 feet from the floor. The tower and spire rise to the height of 210 feet, and contains 5 bells. The tower and spire recently went through massive repairs. The interior is lavishly decorated with many statues and shrines. The wooden reredos of the main altar has crockets and spires going 40 feet in the air. The church was turned over from the German Catholics under the Redemptorist Fathers in 1917, to the Lithuanians under Priests of the Archdiocese of Baltimore. The Tridentine Latin Mass is celebrated every Sunday at 11:30 a.m. Cons: poor parking, no literature on chur, closes around noon
