Review content:
this was the worst dining experience (and aftermath) of my life... Here is what happened (so far)
Out on a date - it was an early dinner because I did not have time to eat earier that day - I ordered the calimari and a mojito. The place was empty, but that's even better when on a date... I tipped 20% and we left... 2 hours later starting to feel bad and 2 and a half hours later, I was throwing up. You can only imagine how that ruined the night I had planned!
After my date left, I called TORO to warn them they should be aware that the food I was served was likely tainted. My server answered the phone and said there was no manager that night, but that they would mail me a gift certificate for the expense the next day (minus tip). Fine, I didn't call to ask for that, but I'll take it.
I never get sick but I spent the next 2 days always close to a bathroom (I wont get graphic, but it was terrible). I finally went to the Dr. Yep it was food poisoning!
Over a week later, still not gift certificate and that made me curious given the ""next day"" comment. So I called and got the chef who says the manager isn't in. He asked what happened so I explained the events and he tells me in a condescending tone ""no way I got food poisoning... that you can't get sick in 2 hours from bad seafood"".. I asked him to just have the manager call me because now I am getting upset at basically being called a liar. Later that day, the manager, Neil calls and he too basically called me a liar, saying that you can't get sick from a meal in 2 hours and that they weren't going to refund me no matter what I was told earlier.
Simply read what the NY Times says about how long it takes to get sick from tainted food by googling it. They are wrong.
First off, I hadn't called to get a refund- but simply to warn them that I got sick after eating there and perhaps they should check it or the preparation (hands wash, etc) before others got sick. When I was offered a refund, I did not say no, given the price for my bad experience.
But when you serve food that makes someone sick for 3 days, then basically call them a liar and dont follow through on what you offer them, not only is that insult to injury, but I think it merits a warning to others by sharing the experience. So, I told Neil I would be writing a review describing what happened. Something I have never done before.
You think I had a bad experience so far? Well get this!
Not 10 minutes after I post a review on another site, the manager Neil calls me back.... not to apologize for how badly he handled the situation, but to threaten me!
He said he had seen the review (same as above) and was contacting the restaurant's lawyer and threatened to sue me if I don't take it down.
Surreal.
It only made me decide to post more reviews describing my experience - which may be ongoing it appears.
