Review content:
My husband and I had been reading good things about this establishment, so instead of heading for Binh Minh on Saturday March 21, we decided to give them a try. We were pleased with the loveliness of your facility and friendliness of staff, and settled in for what we hoped would be equally pleasing food. Unfortunately, the drunken chicken baguette and meatball baguette were excruciatingly salty. Almost to the point of being inedible. I'm guessing the problem was in the sauce, since when not biting into meat or sauce, the bread and vegetable combination seemed fine. It was almost as if the sauce had inadvertently been salted twice. We decided to take a chance on the pandanus cake we'd heard so much about, and it is quite delicious, with one suggestion for improvement. The cake was cold so the frosting on top was hard and difficult to cut into with a fork, like a 1/4 inch slab of butter, a potent reminder to the diner that what they are eating is loaded with unhealthy saturated fat that hardens when cold. It would have been nice to have that frosting soft to at least lessen the knowledge that what you're eating is incredibly high in fat, and that you don't know what kind, maybe transfat?
There were many other things on the menu that looked interesting, and another table that had curry and noodle dishes said they were happy with their food, but there are many places in town that serve good banh mi that aren't too salty. It's a shame, because the bread and ingredients were very fine, much higher quality than at some other Vietnamese sandwich shops.
Pros: Tasty desserts
Cons: Overload of salt on the Baguette Sandwiches
