Review content:
Jakers has a reputation for being one of the top restaurants in Idaho Falls. I've been here half a dozen times over the years and the quality seems to go down every time. We ate there recently and the first thing I noticed was the laziness and demeanor of the hostess. We walked in and were greeted but the hostess' back was turned towards us. I wasn't sure if she had greeted us or if the greeting had come from within the restaurant from other patrons greeting each other. When she finally turned around (ten seconds later), and greeted us again, I realized it was her that had greeted us the first time. I think it's very poor form to greet a group of people with your back turned toward them, but in fairness, I don't think it takes away too much from the dining experience. Our server was nice enough and fairly attentive so no problems there. But the food was very disappointing. Jakers used to have a wonderful warm spinach salad but it looks like they've changed their menu since I last dined there. As an appetizer, we ordered the calamari. I try to order calamari at every restaurant I go to since I enjoy it so much. Honestly, this was the worst calamari that I have ever tasted. It was too greasy, way too salty, and the chunks were too big. I also ordered the french onion soup. In the past, this soup had been a favorite of mine. Most recently, however, I felt the soup was too salty. I ordered the prime rib with asparagus as a side. The asparagus was over-cooked and soggy. The prime rib was not cooked evenly. Half of the cut was medium (what I had ordered), and the other half was medium-well. I would expect my meat to be cooked evenly for the price I paid ($30). I don't know what has happened over the years. Jakers used to be a great option, but I feel like the quality of cooks has gone down. Because of that, I don't feel the price justifies the food. In spite of my experience, my family still loves Jakers. Personally, I think The Cellar is a better dining experience. The atmosphere and quality is by far superior there. Pros: Free scones Cons: Food quality has gone down, price
