Review content:
This may be a good place for prom dresses, but it was a horrible experience for my daughter as a bride. Her bridesmaids ordered their dresses in January, and one of them was told at the end of Jan. that they never got her order so it held up everyone's orders. Three and a half months later the maid of honor's dress arrives. Two weeks go by without anyone else's arriving. I called and found out the other four dresses were ""left at the warehouse in Pennsylvania"" and will come in shortly. Another week goes by without a word from A Formal Affair so I call again and am told the same thing. After pressing the issue, they called and found out the warehouse was in China! and the other dresses will be in the next container in two weeks. Three weeks go by and they finally came in. Previous to all this, I'd asked for a swatch of material to use for matching table linens and tuxes and was told it would be $15 unless we'd ordered it with the dresses; no one ever mentioned that at the time of ordering. I was told Donna would order it for me. Two weeks later I call again and was told Donna would have to call me. She never did. I called again and was told Donna would have to call me. I complained that Donna is never there and never returns calls, that she must be the owner or she'd be fired by now, and was told not only is she the owner but she's a doctor (!) and does this on the side. When Donna finally called she was very snippy and had no recollection of any messages being left. Now we're up to the time for alterations for the bride's gown. They charge $175 to PRESS THE DRESS!!! Are you kidding me? The total alterations were a whopping $570, and she didn't even need it hemmed, just the bust taken in and the bustle added. I was flabbergasted! I've heard alterations were expensive, but come on, this is ridiculous. If you buy from them, don't expect any phone calls to be returned, add several weeks if not two months on to the arrival date, and expect to take out a second mortgage to pay for alterations. The wedding is just weeks away and we have not had any problems with any other vendors, but boy did A Formal Affair make up for it. What a horrible horrible experience.
