Review content:
We live less than a mile from Cafe de Thai and had seen their unique and colorful building many times. On a friday night, we decided to venture over and try their food. Expecting to find any restaurant busy on a Friday night at 7 oclock, we walked into a dining room that only had two tables seated and a patio with only 4 tables seated. This should have been our first clue about the experience we were about to have. The restaurant looks and feels like an IKEA. My husband commented that the cold concrete floors reminded him of the hallways in communist apartment buildings. The waterfall makes the restaurant have a very chlorine like smell, not appetizing. The plates and glasses were cool and high quality. Upon entering we decided to sit on the patio because thats were everyone else was sitting and it always feels awkward being seated in the middle of a practically empty dining room. However, the patio was too cold, so we moved inside. The waitress had a five minute speech to do to introduce you to the specials of the day. Our waitress did her introduction in such a way that I felt like she was the high school teacher from Ferris Buellers Day Off....Bueller? Bueller? (Don't know the reference?...lets just say...she was uninspiring). However, we received very good service from the busperson, a very friendly and efficient lady. It took ten minutes to get our soup, and our food came out immediately after that, giving us no time to enjoy the soup, the Hot and Sour Chicken Soup was good. My food, the noodle special with Filet and Scallops was luke warm upon being served. I was immediately turned off. I liked the texture of the scallops, but they were drowning in an overpowering sauce that I could not identify and did not enjoy. My husband ordered the Prawns and Mushrooms, which he enjoyed, but felt that the culinary school diploma inside the door was a little pompous for the food served. We could have had that quality of food for 6.00 a portion at any other thai place in town. Prices were far too high. The desserts looked good, but I was so put off by the atmosphere and the food that we didn't stay to try any. Our bill was given to us on an ice cold stainless steel clipboard....when I picked up the clipboard, I thought...""COLD""....just like everything else about Cafe de Thai. We won't be back and do not recommend it. Pros: Patio Seating, Original Food Cons: Service, Ambiance, Prices.
