Review content:
I wanted to like Akasha because I like their ideology. I wish more restaurants tried to source from local farmers for sustainable, organic food. The location is lovely and they have decorated it well; shelves of organic cookbooks line the walls and brightly colored desserts call out to you from the counter. The execution needs massive improvement.
I ordered a take out lunch for six people in my office. We had the tandoori chicken salad, open faced tempeh sandwich, red quinoa bowl with tofu and the mushroom pizza. Although I called in advance and told them what time I needed to pick it up, I still had to wait 30 minutes for my order, barely making it back in time for two people to eat and head to an afternoon meeting. While I was waiting the staff seemed to not notice or care that I was standing there. I politely flagged people down a few times for a status update and they just told me that they are working on it. Funnily enough, the two things I was waiting for were the chicken salads. Really? I had to wait 30 minutes for grilled chicken and lettuce?
Those who ate the salads said they were 'passable', the tempeh was alright if not a little shriveled looking, and the quinoa was an extremely small portion. The mushroom pizza was the big winner with the office. Overall the portions were small for what we paid and the food wasn't enough to make us want to go back.
Yes, the ambiance is great and they are honestly trying to promote local farms. I'm just not going to give them my business when they are so lacking in customer service. It's a shame.
Pros: A great idea about how food should be procured
Cons: Bad execution, small portions, expensive for what you get
