I went to Dr. Birkmire for about a year for depression issues, over a period of time, my symptoms got better but I was still lacking a certain motivation and struggled with work and completing tasks. He then told me I had a case of mild ADD. I was very shocked because I am 30 and I have been to several psychologists before and never once have been diagnosed with it at all. He prescribed me a certain medication for ADD. i told him it worked grat and that I felt very tired in the evenings. He then presribed another medication for ADD. the second medication only lasted about 2 hours, so on my next visit I told him it only lasted about 2 hours. He then presribed a 3rd mediccation. The 3rd mediation caused a very great amount of side effects that had a very negative effect on mylife. I went back to see him after 2 weeks of the 3rd mediation. He would not even listen to what my side effects were. I asked him if he could just put me back on the 2nd medication because it did not give me any side effects. He then proceeded to imply that I had formed a dependency on the 2nd medication. I have never been more insulted in my life. had never even heard of these drugs until HE prescribed them to me. He then insisted on prescribing me a 4th ADD medication. i was almost in tears telling him I was afraid to try something else and that I would just stay on the medications I was currently on because of all the crazy side effects. He would not have it and basivally forced me to agree to try a 4th ADD mediaction. I just agreed with him. I told him my depression had worsened and he did not really care to hear it. I feel like he gave up on me. I was having serious side effects, he did not want to hear about them,. i felt like I had no where to turn. Luckily my husband was very supportive and urged me to never go there again and see a different Dr right away. Br. Birkmire may be very intellegent, but there is something not right with him. He is very unprofessional, goes off on tangints, gets spaced out at timres, forgets what medications he previously prescribed and the dosage. I felt SO bad. Please spare your self the upset, go anywhere else but with Dr. Birkmire.
