BF Jayson & I made a road trip to Modesto, California this past Fri (7/3/09) to check out this place that's a combo of CostCo, Foodmaxx, & Walmart ...WinCo Foods. DRIVE TIME: Traveled from Castro Valley to Modesto on a Friday afternoon took us about an 1hr drive. Why the heak did we travel out here for a place similiar to CostCo, Foodmaxx & Walmart? Well BF's co-worker speaks highly of their Antioch location; we both had the day off, needed to go to a grocery store for 4th of July, & just said, ""Eeeeh, what the hell, let's go the Central Valley"". Yes, we're that kind of couple...we can be spontaneous for a drive here/there *tee-hee*. GROCERY STORE: I felt like Tony The Tiger, this grocery store is greeeat! Indeed comparable to CostCo, Foodmaxx, & Walmart w/ its own personality. This place seems most interesting to me w/ the assortment of coffee beans, grains, dry pastas, honey. In all those I listed, WinCo has dispensers for these items...& many dispensers! Select your coffee bean/grain from damn there 50 varieties; select your grain from wild rice, rice pilaf, jasmine rice, jasmine brown rice, cuoscuos, & more; select pastas from ling, angel hair, bowties, & more; select ur honey from 3 boxes & take their big bold sign seriously (""Do not open lid as you may let the bees out""..wtf!). Levers, bags, & scales all to help ya! Large array of everything else like a grocery store & walmart w/ food, toiletrees, bakery, meat/seafood/deli; only thing I didn't see was floral area. My BF got his Sweet Corn w/ the rest of the black folks & we got a few more things from our short-list. Registers lined up like Costco & Foodmaxx, but bag ur own sh!t like Foodmaxx. Final shopping costs, we spent about $77 & came out really pleased w/ the price of everything we got. Even coming from the register, we noticed their food court area...$2 & some change for slice of pizza & canned soda. Yes, we tried this out...pizza crust was crunchy & so actually better than CostCo. Pros: Large assortments, spacious aisles, & freebie tasters Cons: Cash/Debit Card only. Food court only offers pizza
