A1 Fence Company has been a monumental disappointment from the moment we signed our contract with them. I contracted A1 Fence (their name doesn't even deserve to be capitalized) to replace an existing fence on my property. As soon as we signed the contract and sent in our deposit, they avoided us like the plague. A1 immediately cashed my deposit and then I didn't hear from them again for over a month. I left several messages with them but it was over a month before they finally answered my call. We had signed our contract in early November, 2010. After finally reaching them before Christmas, I was assured by Bruce that they would begin work on our fence on December 16th. When I got home from work that day, I expected to see a new fence but nothing had been done. I was concerned because I had to move around my schedule quite a bit to make sure that I was there with the workers. It shocked me that Bruce felt it was perfectly acceptable to cash my deposit but not to give me a courtesy call to let me know they wouldn't be showing up at my residence. Once again, I called Bruce and he gave me some excuse about being on another job and he couldn't get to a phone. I let Bruce know that I understood that there are delays but that I couldn't understand why he couldn't give me a simple phone call. Bruce assured me that they would definitely begin working on Tuesday, December 22nd. As you would guess, they were a no show on December 22nd. Once again, Bruce failed to place a simple phone call to let me know they wouldn't be showing up. I called him on Wednesday, December 23rd and told him that I no longer wanted him to do our work and I expected my deposit returned. He feebly tried to tell me that they would be starting work on December 24th but then dropped the charade and agreed to return my deposit. I left a message with A1 on December 30th looking for my deposit. The next day, I called back and the woman running the office assured me that she put it in the mail. Here we are on January 7th and there has been no sign of the deposit. A1 has stopped answering our phone calls. We've had to hire a lawyer to commence legal action against them to get our deposit back. I have never before written a review about a company but I want everyone to avoid A1 at all costs. They are duplicitous and conniving.
