The motto for the United Methodist Church of North America reads, ""Open Hearts, Open Doors, Open Minds"". For Devon Park UMC, there is a caveat: ""*Unless you are Gay and you want to get married in North Carolina."" The marquee gained national attention today for declaring that marriage is between one man, one woman, and God. That's hateful, shameful, and just one of the reasons the United Methodist Church is slowly, slowly disintegrating to the status of being an inconsequential diversion. Almighty God loves everybody. God wants us to love each other. How presumptuous, reverend Pearsall, to claim otherwise. Your politics have brought shame to the UMC, the city of Wilmington, and the State of North Carolina. Your decision to put that garbage up outside of a House of God is a disgrace and will become the iconic symbol of close-minded hatred that was carried out today, May 8, 2012.
