Unsteady, what a name for a store that sells men?s clothing. The East Village setting gives it the proper fresh and raw edge. Your fuct ? clothing can be found here. The place is in owner Miranda Snyder?s own words ?Low Brow.? That got my attention. Art movements starting in LA in the 70?s manifesting in men?s clothing glorifying subcultures like punk, hot rods, skate boarding and other American sub cultures, in the here and now - if that pop-surrealism is your kind of thing then Unsteady is the place for you. The clothing is impish, witty, sarcastic and iggy popish. I love it. Snyder does design clothing herself, but the main thing about Unsteady is her sewing and alteration services. Especially the Union Special Chain Stitch, and she proudly display the old Janome she stitches that with. The clothing here is top notch. The lowbrow brands include Unsteady?s own E.vil Doers? (East Village Doers), Actual Pain?, Nudie Jeans?, Miska?, Peg Leg and many other favorites. Pricing is bit high, suggesting the clothing is ironically for the high brow. But considering you really get a professional seamstress in the process, who?s complaining. A 4th generation San Diegan Snyder has been sewing from the age of 8. A self confessed, sort of, nerd ? ?We all we?re back then weren?t we?? ? out of San Diego?s local schools, streets, and beaches she has been a sub-culture kid all her life. It shows in her design style and the impish collection at Unsteady. Unsteady is well worth your visit
