...as I stand there in the not overly crowded bar waiting for my change, i see this guy take another order and give change (having waited for my change patiently)...I then reach in his direction (after a minute or so of staring and waiting) and tap the bar to get his attention. He responded with smart-ass ogled eyes, an open mouth and smacked the bar three times at me...all pissed off like some child. I said excuse me but can I get my change...? He responded with a smart ass tone, ""Oh, you want your dollar fifty!!!"" He then walks over to his tips, pulls out the money and making a scene, being about as big an a-hole as possible, says, there's your dollar fifty!...Then he proceeds to yell at me about how they had put beers in the ice for me and how I had only tipped him fifty cents last time...and blah blah blah...
Needless to say, I was friggin stunned! I tended bar in night clubs and restaurants throughout my 20's IN SAN DIEGO and I have NEVER heard or seen ANY bartender, server or service person, not only ASSUME a tip, but intentionally steal a tip OUT OF MALICE...solely because he felt he had done something special for me and had not been compensated!
Uh HELLOOOOO...that dip-shit hadn't done anything for me!!! The first guy put the beers in ice hence an extra tip and the girl had helped me before (and I think the $1.50 tip for opening 2 beers was being more than gracious!)
So...this guy is yelling at me across the bar and trying to get the other bartenders involved by repeating that I had only tipped him $.50...so I responded by looking at the blond (who I knew remembered) and asked her how much I tipped her...she responded...a dollar fifty...seemingly satisfied and definitely not upset in any way. As I briefly tried to defend my ego from being accosted in front of people, and was asking for the manager, this little brown dude responded with ""I am the manager""...I then asked who is the owner? He would not respond and others would not as well. Security then basically told me to shut up (even though he was the one ranting and I was simply repeating ""I'd like the owners information"". I stopped... then quickly walked to another security person who was not aware of what had transpired and asked who the manager was...he gave me his name, I asked him if it was the brown dude behind the bar, he responded, no its a blond dude named (?)...I then asked to speak with the manager. The manager soon returned and asked me what was the problem, I responded with the occurrence...he told me the guy had come with him from Yogi's...which meant absolutely nothing to me... and that he was a good guy! Oh, obviously he's a great guy...are you kidding me! He then said, let me get you a free beer on me...I responded, I really don't want another beer, my pride and ego was smashed in front of tons of people and I had to drive home (it was near closing)...he insisted and returned with another beer, which I'm sorry, couldn't begin to touch what had transpired.
A final note: the type of person that would blatantly withhold change out of spite like this, would DEFINITELY pull some shady sh*t on credit card receipts!!! I worked in bars and restaurants long enough to know the type!
