Review content:
I grew up in Southern California where great mexican food is everywhere. Later, I moved to Colorado and quickly learned it is not as common place as I had thought. When I first came to Panama City, I thought for sure Chula's would be another run of the mill tex-mex or mexican ""style"" restaurant. Was I ever wrong! Chula's by Rita is by far one of the best I have eaten at, ever. The food is authentic and wonderful. The atmosphere is comfortable and the staff attentive and friendly. Everything I have eaten there is very fresh, high quality, well seasoned, and over all, very competently made. It is the only restaurant I repeatedly return to and I find myself craving it when I am at home. On a recent visit to Panama City, my mother travelled with me and, of course, we dined at Chula's. My mother was equally impressed with the overall package that is Chula's by Rita. She too, echoed my raving of the food and atmosphere. Please do your taste buds a favor and stop in for a bite. You will be very satisfied. For a great appetizer, try the cheese dip and chips. it is an excellent variation of the common queso dip, made with a white cheese. It's very creamy and slightly spiced. If you ask, they will bring you a side of jalapenos, if you prefer it more spicy. The dip is so good, I'd like to eat it with a spoon. It also is very tasty poured over their fajita burrito. I tend to be quite picky and difficult to please (especially with mexican food) though I cannot find anything negative to say about Chula's whatsoever. The staff is very pleasant and quick without being ""overly attentive"" and irritating. You will never have to ask for anything twice. The restaurant is family run and they take an active interest in the goings on. You will often find them in the dining area. You can always expect a smile and a warm welcome. To recap, the food is excellent and authentic, very reasonably priced, and the atmosphere is warm and friendly without being kitschy. I cannot say enough good about Chula's.
