Nobody was anticipating the opening of Sweet Rose Creamery more than me, and it just might be this very thing that caused me such grief. With my expectations as high as they were, realistically, it would have been pretty difficult for them to be met. I thought SRC would be life changing which is probably a bit much pressure to put on a tiny shop. Anyway, on to the ice cream! Weeks before they even opened, I knew that my first order was going to be their already-famed Salted Caramel ice cream. And, let me tell you, it was heavenly! It was so flavorful and the sea salt that they sprinkled on top added to that always popular salty/sweet combination. I savored every bite, but even still I was staring at the bottom of my empty container in no time. That was my first complaint- they charge quite a lot for not really much at all (I?m aware that I have a very distorted American view of portions). Over the next couple of weeks, I went back many more times and tried a lot of their other flavors, but I was surprisingly very underwhelmed by them. The Peanut Butter was, in fact, a glob of peanut butter. I tested this -it didn?t melt!!! The Dirty Mint, another one of my usual go-to favorites, tasted like I was sucking on a mint leaf, and not in a good way. Despite all my less than spectacular experiences with SRC, I kept going back, determined to find something (other than the salted caramel) that made me weak in the knees. My friends laughed at the fact that I just couldn?t let this go, but my hard work paid off when I branched out and started trying their other ice cream desserts like their pies, bon bons, and sandwiches. This is where SRC really shines and the route I?d suggest taking. My now go-to is their ice cream sandwiches; they taste good and are the best value, in my opinion. I must state that although I have some issues with SRC, I am a huge fan of their concept and am willing to stick it our while they work out some of the kinks (which they already have addressed a number of). The best part, or worst, depending on how you look at it, is that their ice cream is so fresh and pure that you don?t even feel like you?ve just eaten ice cream. Okay, I think I need to go pick up a pint of their Salted Caramel now ($8, also a good value).
Pros: Interesting, fresh flavors
Cons: Pricey and inconsistent
