Review content:
This place deserves its accolades in book form. It hosted more U.S. presidents and members of royalty than just about any other resort/hotel and for a good reason. The area is like the song. Almost heaven, West, Virginia. It brings a tear to the eye taking it all in. The hotel is one of the most beautiful historic residences in the country. The staff is impeccable. The service is something you will rarely find any where else. The world class cuisine is unimpeachable. The grounds are breathtaking. You can engage in just about any sport. The predictable golf, yes, and their course is world class, also polo, all manner of proper equestrian riding, tennis, swimming, I could go on & on. Off grounds there is one of the most impressive white water rafting rivers in the nation. The ""New River"" and their concierge can arrange an outing for you. I have gone spelunking in some of the area caves as well. Most of the men in my family caddied here as teenagers because it was such a great place to be. As kids we loved talking about the underground bunkers that could hide the nations leaders in times of peril, and no one was supposed to know about this but everyone did! Now you can actually go through the underground chambers with a guide. They have subterranean dorms for varying levels of officials and private de-contamination and isolation chambers that are now well known to the public. Just don't go on the tour with the area locals. Make sure you book through the concierge and go as a Greenbrier guest. This compound has recently included real estate options to it's menu of goodies so if you love it so much you don't want to leave you don't have to. I don't work for the Greenbrier or the West Virginia tourist board, honest! I'm just a smitten guest who thinks this is a bit of heaven on earth. If you visit the Greenbrier you will never settle for a ""club med"" or other tacky touristy destination vacation. This place is top shelf.
Pros: Unbelievable amenities, atmosphere
