When my transmission failed I called Eagle Transmission, and the original foreman running the shop answered my phone call late on a Saturday afternoon. I thought that was very nice. Evidently they have the line run to his cell phone, but at least he answered it. In the transmission world that is almost unheard of, so I was very happy about that.
They are fairly close, so I took the truck in. One thing that I was a little disturbed by was that it took 4 days to get it fixed. There were several phone conversations about pricing and whether I wanted a new transmission, a rebuilt transmission with new parts, or a rebuilt transmission with used parts. Because my truck is 10 years old, I decided to go with used parts.
4 days later I get my truck back. Meanwhile I have been having to get my wife to drop me off at work. I understand that repairs take awhile, but 4 days seemed a little extreme. After 2 weeks they wanted me to come in so that they could drive around and check out the transmission. I did that, and they said that everything looked fine.
After another 2 weeks I get in the car, fire it up, and the check engine light comes on. That was the signal the first time that something was wrong. I call the original guy again, take it to him, and he plugged his meter into my truck. Sure enough, one of the parts wasn't working. He told me it would take 2 days to get the part in, and that he felt it was fine to drive it until then.
I called Eagle Transmission the following Monday and asked, once again, for the original guy. The guy who answered the phone said that he no longer worked there. He was very cordial to me, and let me know that he would order the part right away. He said that he would get it there the next day, and sure enough he did. I went in there, and they knocked it out in 30 minutes.
Overall, I would say that for $1,800 it went fairly well. It was a lot of money, but I understand we are not talking about changing out a battery. The other gentleman who took over as shop foreman was very cordial, and I would say that they did what they were asked to do.
I was a little disconcerted that the original guy was suddenly gone, especially as he was the one dealing with my car and was supposed to have ordered the part, but the truck is running fine. Who knows what all the politics were. When I went back to the second guy he cleared a lift for me immediately, and I really wasn't there for more than 30 minutes. He had a handle on his business and got it done, so I give him Kudos for that.
Overall it was business as usual as far as auto repair. I wasn't blown away, but I was not completely disappointed either. They have a clean office and a clean shop.
