A quaint establishment that is slightly off the beaten path, well worth taking the road less traveled. The first impression as we entered was John, a multi-faceted gentleman that was our Maitre de, our waiter, and most importantly he was our host. Right away John let us know that we were to be treated as family, not as guests. We had a fairly large group (11) so when the reservation was made it was requested that we pre order to allow for the meals to be prepared in a timely manner and all of us be served at the same time. Once John confirmed who was to recieve which meal, the appetizer''s ensued with a flurry of flavor that the palatte cannot prepare for. Just as we thought we could not possibly taste something more delicous, John brought us our soup; creamy tomato with basil - sounds like a run of the mill soup HA !! simply incredible, it slowly caresses the palette, it seemed as though my taste buds were springing awake after a long slumber. At this point you start to wonder if there is ANY chance you can fit more food into your belly, then...the main course arrives. Being a person that is the quintessential ""Meat and potatoes"" guy, and having traveled around this country eating some of the very best steaks to be offered, all I can say is that these ain't your Mama's steak and potatoes. The Prime rib is served in a portion large enough to choke a whale and is so tender that you really don't need a knife. The baby carrots cooked in butter, brandy and brown sugar are dessert like. Next comes the ACTUAL dessert, can you say PIE ? Banana, Chocoloate, Rasberry ala mode, and OMG the carrot cake. Sorry Mom, John's mom has you beat. Altogether the food was spectacular, but what really makes a meal is the ambiance. John IS the ambiance. He is funny, personable, and was the reason we will all remember our first experience at the Bear's Steak house. P.S. Hey John...how did things work out with Bob and his umbrella ?
Pros: Waiter, flavor, portions
Cons: 1500 miles from home - gas is expensive
