Review content:
I agree with the review entitled ""Rip Off!"" because my recent experience with the J. Alexanders on White Bridge was a terrible experience. My husband and I thought we'd try to find a decent place to eat, because I have special dietary needs. I had only tried J Alexander's once before, and had a fairly good experience then, but it seems that the prices have gone up. If I want to pay $27 for Ahi Tuna Steak, I will go to Stony River or to the original Sperry's in Belle Meade, not to a place where my food was cold and the piece of Ahi I got was a gristly, $1.50 piece of fish bait; I was expecting sushi quality, but got this rubbery, flavorless yuck. Ahi should be cooked one way...rare, but when the waiter asked me how I'd like it cooked, I should have known that ""rare"" to them means that you will get a tough sear with medium through most of the cut and spots of rare fish that was not fresh. To give credit to our waiter, he at least had the decency to remove the charge from our ticket. My husband was disappointed in his cut of New York Strip, as well, and said he wouldn't be back, and that if he is going to pay that much for a steak, he would go back to Sperry's. After I got home from this train wreck, I spent the night retching. Such a disappointment! J Alexanders, here's a word of advice: if you expect to stay open in this economy, you need to switch to a vendor that won't sell you cat food!
