Review content:
I think picking a church is a little like falling in love. It's different for every person, and different things resonate with different people. Personally, I don't think that the pastor or anyone in the church is trying to be ""too cool"" or ""rockin'"" - the reason I go is because I think it's the first church experience that's actually been genuine. I don't attend because I'm trying to be all hipster with God; I go because I'm okay listening and talking and not being judged.
I attend Catalyst, and have for over a year... and I'm not yet comfortable calling myself a Christian... AND THAT'S OKAY AT CATALYST. How many churches can you go to where they aren't going to judge you or try and change you? I have never stuck with any church in the few instances where I've tried it because of all the pressure to be someone I'm not. I walk in the door, and it's okay to be me. It's okay to learn at my own pace, and I'm still welcomed and loved.
Isn't that really what it's all about?
