Review content:
I went to Dr. Dason's office for an exam on a tooth that had no pain or sensitivity but was missing a piece. An x-ray was taken, then I was asked to wait in one of the dental rooms which was dirty. I was thinking of leaving. Dr. Dason came in the room and told me that I would need a root canal. I know from doing my research and family history that root canals don't work. I told the dentist that I did not want a root canal. He proceeded to tell me that he was the doctor here. I got up and left, still with the hole in my tooth. I decided I would have the tooth evaluated by the dentist that my parents use. I called to get my records from Dr. Dason, and was told that there would be a $15.00 fee for my records, and that I had an outstanding balance of $5.00. I decided that since it had been almost a week, that I would be better off with a new x-ray from my parent?s dentist. I had an x-ray taken and the dentist couldn't understand why I had been told that I needed a root canal. The x-ray indicated no signs of root inflammation. The dentist filled the tooth and it feels fine. My only complaint the entire time, to both dentists, was that food was getting stuck in the tooth. I can't understand why Dr. Dason was insisting that I needed a root canal. He never showed me the x-ray, never did an oral exam, and gave a very poor consultation regarding the necessity of the procedure. I was opposed to the root canal from the beginning, as it is my understanding that a root canal leads to an infection for the life of the root canal. My mother had a root canal and lost a tooth over it. Bottom line is that Dr. Dason should not have recommended a root canal for a tooth that simply needed to be filled. You really have to watch out for what some dentists will do to your mouth.
