Review content:
We went to Fishbone's today for lunch and we're expecting a good meal given some things we've heard and reviews we've read. We were so thoroughly disappointed with the food that it moved us to write our first restaurant review ever. The meal started off with their bread and herbed butter. This was actually the only thing that we did enjoy because the butter had some nice flavor to it. We ordered calamari for an appetizer. The calamari was decent, but I was a little surprised to just receive a plain plate with cocktail sauce when the appetizer costs $11. For this price, you would expect at least a garnish and nice presentation. It looked like something you would order from a diner presentation-wise. One plus about the calamari is that it was perfectly cooked and tender; we just didn't find anything special about the flavor. For the entree, I ordered jambalaya. It looked good when I received it, but I was very disappointed when I actually tasted it. There wasn't really much there in terms of flavor. It almost tasted like they just threw some andoille sausage, shrimp, and tomato sauce over rice. My girlfriend got a bowl of the seafood gumbo. She was trying gumbo for the first time and didn't even want to eat more than a bite. I offered to switch plates with her, but she didn't like the jambalaya either given my description above. The gumbo did not taste like anything I've had before. It was mediocre at best. We took the leftovers home but I don't even think I want to eat it, and I'll usually eat anything even if it's not that good just for the sake of not wasting food. I would describe the service as adequate. Our server seemed to just fulfill her duties at the minimum, even though it was during a slow time. I expect better service from a restaurant with such highly priced items. The menu was large, especially because of the sushi section. It may seem overwhelming to some. I personally did not have a problem with the size, but feel like other people would. Overall, I will NEVER go back to this restaurant. We spent the rest of the afternoon making jokes and pointing out to other restaurants saying ""we should've gone there instead."" Pros: Not much, good atmosphere? Cons: Lackluster food
