The nearest neighbor of the Cape Horn substation is the spectacular new Cape Horn Trail, a 7.2 mile loop that offers panoramic views of the Columbia River Gorge. Trail passes under a pristine waterfal where falcons roost in the rocks above. Hikers can see Rooster Rock State Park, Angels Rest, Bridal Veil, Beacon Rock, and Bonneville Dam from the top of the trail. A fully developed parking area with restroom facilities is nearby. Down the road are great resorts and restaurants, including Skamania Lodge. The charming Columbia River Gorge Bed and Breakfast Is only 5 mintues from the Cape Horn Trailhead. It is on 40 acres with hiking trails so guests can look back at the Cape Horn Trail from a vantage point on Quinn Mountain after hiking up to the Cape bluffs. The B&B offers two suites, but rarely rents out both, so guests have privacy, peace, and seclusion. A romantic getaway place in the Columbia Gorge. Pros: Spectacular night skies in summer; humidity free days of sun from July through September Cons: Rain and snow in winter, but this can add to the adventure.
