Review content:
The Village Gourmet is an adorable gourmet food shop on an equally adorable stretch of Tujunga Avenue in Studio City. Dark wood shelves neatly display the shop?s epicurean delights. Pantry items like salts, spreads, grains, oils, and wine line the left wall while sweets like butter cookies, chocolates, and Dean and Deluca jelly beans line the right wall. The freezer case also lines the right wall and features foods like homemade gnocchi, carrot soup, and puff pastry appetizers. In the center, a smaller refrigerator case is filled with grab and go items such as a cheese and salami platter, bean salad, dolmas, and more. Of course, locals flock to the Village Gourmet for its cheese selection, which includes over 50 varieties, both domestic and imported. The wheels, crotins, and blocks are presented in an open display case at the back of the store. There is, most definitely, a positive psychological effect from not having to ogle over these beauties through glass. More importantly, it allows the cheese to breathe properly. Like at any good cheese store, each cheese is marked by a small card indicating its name, age, and provenance. Purchase individual pieces of cheese or have a helpful staff member create a sandwich on freshly baked bread or a party platter with fruit, salami, or prosciutto. Finally, the Village Gourmet offers specially designed gourmet gift baskets; they?re perfect as housewarming or holiday gifts! @thelagourmet
