Despite the somewhat over-lit and grim decor, the food here is amazing. Fresh vegetables, no msg, not too oily, they don't throw scoops of costco peanut butter into every sauce like Planet Thailand. Authentic clean fresh Thai food. Any reviews from other websites saying the food here is bland are by MSG loving imbeciles. The food at *erb is seasoned with fresh herbs and chilies, some dishes subtle and some have zing. I also love that they use much less salt than other Thai places. This isn't your average Chinese-fast-food-slash-Thai-joint, this is authentic Thai with wonderfully seasoned dishes. No MSG, light on the salt, light on the oils and heavy on authenticity. The fish and vegetables have been fresh every time, unlike any of the other Greenpoint/Williamsburg Thai places with the frozen shrimp, brown onions and soggy tomatoes. You won't get any of that here. At *erb the tomatoes were ripe and cucumbers crunchy and the onions were perfectly crisp (not chewy like the other restaurants). In spite of some poor reviews at other websites I had to try them because I loathe MSG, I was so happily surprised that i have been back a dozen times and never once had a complaint about the food. My only negative note: the prices are 50 cents higher now and they have not updated the printed menu, so the 7.95 curries are actually 8.45... Pros: Authentic, No MSG, Friendly Cons: BYOB, only lemonade, water and tea available on site.
