What can you say about a temporary shelter? Nothing is perfect, but for the more than 10 months I lived at Carver Transition on Grand in Galesburg it was more than home, it was my safe haven. Once a proud homeowner with a good job, family, I fell on hard times. I came to Galesburg to be close to my son who is incarcerated in the city, and I was given a private room. A place to ""get myself together"" while awaiting a decision from SSD, and grieving over my many losses. I met people from all walks of life. I never though I would say this, but I am a better person for having gone through the ""homeless"" experience. I love the people that run the place for what they do. I pray always that God will make a way to keep the doors of this place open, as they have helped so many people. Carver and Staff thank you for being there when I needed you and God Bless you. I am now back living in the Chicago Suburbs (after winning my SSD case) and I have a great apartment and can see the light at the end of the tunnel - all of which was possible because Carver gave me a place to call home when I had no home. For those who do not ""make it"" while living there it is simply because some people just have problems following rules - I never really found the rules hard to follow, as I knew this was just a stepping stone to my regaining independance again - and I have! Pros: Highly Recommeded Cons: Temporary Shelter
