I saw an ad for a used 2002 Saturn SL1 with a price that was very close to 'private party' KBB. I called ahead, then went in and one of the two owners had pulled the car up and had it ready for viewing. He handed me the keys, took a photocopy of my ODL, then let me drive off alone so that I could test drive it with no pressure. They gave me as much time as I wanted to poke and prod the car.
When I was ready to buy they were firm - but flexible and willing to do what they needed to do to make the deal happen. They offered 'same as cash' and other options that could be very helpful to people trying to hit a budget.
PLUS - they gave me a free pot roast from their bother's ranch after we closed the deal (seriously!).
Yes - they are used car salesmen. Yes - you will be negotiating - but all in all I would send any relative or friend to these guys and feel confident that they will not be taken advantage of.
Pros: No pressure. Willing to work with me to find options
