Home Ec Workshop could easily be my favourite Iowa City business. Owners Codi and Alisa open the doors of their business every day and provide a great selection of fine yarn (I haven't explored their fabrics much yet! The yarn is too distracting!), a full-service espresso-bar, and the most wonderful atmosphere. They know their regulars and welcome new-comers with equal attitude and interest, and so far I haven't experienced anything less than a pleasant, relaxing, helpful time down there (and I spend a lot of time down there, trust me). Their Saturday morning Knitter's Breakfast is one of the high points of my week: make a light brunch of the excellent fresh-baked coffee cake and quiche (beware! If you want quiche, plan to arrive early because it's in high demand!) and enjoy the company of diverse and exciting people who come in to work on their projects. I can't think of a better way to start my weekend. They also offer wonderful classes every month for knitting and other kinds of crafts, as well as rent out time on sewing machines and other equipment in their workshop. Do not miss out on visiting Home Ec! Pros: Great yarn, fabulous people, excellent coffee, etc etc etc! Cons: sometimes not enough quiche :o
