Review content:
I ate at Roscoe's on 12/21/07 because I recalled that I may have heard good things about this restaurant's Southern Cuisine. Well, their customer's apparently aren't very demanding. Yes, I like fried chicken and I also love waffles, and although I have never tried that combo before, I can see where they might go together. We'll, first off, I was a bit surprised to see that their menu prices are rather high, based on the plates offered. Soft drinks run close to $3 and they don't provide free refills. The water they serve is apparently non-filtered city water and provides their guests with a metalic taste. Now for my meal. I ordered a 1/4 fried chicken which turned out to be a thigh and a leg, with two large waffles. The price was around $8 - $9! A $4.80 side of salad, which I asked to be served first, was served only moments before the hot course (chicken & waffles) arrived. Guess she took me literally. I like to enjoy my salad before receiving my hot meal, but this didn't happen. I decided not mention this to the server. While I was eating, I realized that KFC, although a litter greasier, would have saved me around $12 on my meal and would have pleased me just as much as the chicken at Roscoe's! The physicial atmosphere is that of a old free standing building which is shotty in appearance, and a trip to their restroom to wash my hands revealed quite a mess. I also noted that one of their kitchen employees walked out of the restroom without washing his hands. The staff is very friendly and they seem to have a good customer base during the dinner hour. They told me they stay open until 2:00 AM on the Friday evening which I was there. The bottom line is that I won't return because their food is overpriced and unless you are not very demanding, this would not be a good restaurant venue to take a date or to expect above average food quality. I don't mind spending $20 per person for dinner, but at the very least, I do expect much better food quailty.
