In the past year, I have had 2 major surgeries at BHE. There are not enough adjectives to praise my surgeons. Dr. Werner for spinal surgery and Dr. Tien operated on my thumb. Their surgical incisions are very small and healed beautifully and at this time, minimal scarring. I do feel that I need to express my displeasure of the nursing care I received the first night of my back surgery. The night nurse did not check on me at all the entire shift. Luckily my daughter stayed with me and was able to care for me, due to the nurses and one aid's incompetence. I had severe nausea and vomitng, but the floor nurse refused to call my Dr. To get an order for an IV anti-emetic. They wanted to give me an IM injection of phenergan, which is very painful. My daughter and I both, are registered nurses with many years of experience. I already had a lot of post-op pain and did not need that compounded with a painful injection. We asked to speak to the house supervisor and she refused to get the order as well. My daughter asked for assistance to pull me up in bed and the floor nurse as well as the nursing assistant were at a loss on how to do this. They were reluctant to assist at all. The following morning, when the neurosurgeon (who assisted Dr. Werner) came in to do a post-op assessment, he was appalled that he or Dr. Werner had not been notified of my request for an IV anti-emetic. Also, during that same night, my daughter asked for a blanket and the nurse pointed to a closet and said,""They're in there"", refusing to get out of her chair to retrieve the blanket for her. As I said, this only occurred the first night of my stay. Fortunately, that nurse, nor the nursing assistant worked on that floor for the remainder of my stay. After my first night, the nurses, and other staff members were exceptional in their care for me.
