I've lived at Fairfax Towers for five years and, up until very recently, have enjoyed it immensely. However, about a month ago the building was bought by AvalonBay Communities and it has gone downhill fast! It's so, so sad. They fired almost everyone, including the irreplaceable concierge. Residents signed a petition on her behalf and made numerous phone calls, but they didn't care. And they're making changes to try and pinch every penny out of us. The office hours are shortened. The free shuttle to the Metro is now MUCH smaller, so people have to shove in, they now require renters insurance, and the new leasing office staff is TERRIBLE. Unhelpful, unfriendly, etc.
I used to really feel that I lived in a community, but now I can't wait to get out of here.
