The company I work for recently purchased two sets of scaffolding from Tennessee Scaffolding to replace our existing scaffold system. We do not work more than 7' from the deck but working on a scaffold is much safer than ladders. Our old scaffold system was rated at 1,000 lb load but was starting to bend on the bracing of the working platform. We went to Tennessee Scaffold to purchase two complete sets of scaffolds to work in areas of 7' above the deck and and to meet or exceed OSHA standards. They suggested a scaffold system that was rated at 2,000 lb. We purchased the two sets.
Today, we needed to use the scaffolds and there were no assembly instructions. I called their office and they sent me a drawing. We assembled the scaffold and the aluminum planks did not fit correctly. I called them and asked about the planks. I was told that the aluminum planks were not designed to work with the scaffolding system that we purchased but to get by that we should place a piece of plywood to cover the 14"" gap between the planks. I was very shocked that a company that sells OSHA approved scaffolding would suggest such a dangerous ""trick"" to just get by. I will not put my co-workers in such a dangerous working enviorment.
To future byers from Tennessee Scaffolding: Watch what you are buying that the entire system is compatable and safe. The salesman just dosent' know or just doesn't care.
