American Montessori Society August 21,2008 Attention: I amwriting to inform you of emailcorrespondence we received in the American Montessori Society office from several parents from your school on July 21-24, 2008. Concerns were expressed about the following: 1. As it pertains to security 2.As it pertains to children being allowed to play in the sun, without water, sunscreen and during code red and orange ozone days; 3. And the deaths of three classroom pets as documented in the e-mails forwarded from the georgia Department of Agriculture and Cobb County Animal Control 4.Lack of policy and training of staff, especially summer staff, regarding summer health and safety issues; 5. Dismissal of children from the school for perceived differences of opinion with school administration regarding these issues. The e-mails expressing these concerns were copied by the senders to twenty different email addresses. We strongly advise that you rectify these matters and communicate to the parents of your schools the steps you taken to assure the health and safety of their children. The ANS charter, mission and history deny our role in assessing qualitative educational or business practice matters. However, we feel it is our duty to infom you that we have received this complaint. We earnestly hope that high ethical standards and their implementation are the goal of every Montessouri school owner, operator and teacher. Our legally mandated and restricted roles however,do not include being the investigator or arbiter of the ethics and actions or practices of AMS member schools. We remind you that the AMS Code of Ethics is self-enforcing, and as a member school of AMS all employees of your school should agree to abide by this code. We hope you are able to resolve this health and safety issues and reach an agreeable solution to this matter.
