Review content:
I've patronized this SA landmark since the 70's. Located in a quaint stucco building in a quiet neighborhood that is easily accessible from downtown area, this restaurant is a favorite for locals and a real treat for tourists. The atmosphere and service recalls that old-time casual dining experience that has virtually disappeared from the restaurant scene now days. The patio area is a ideal spot to enjoy a margarita or a tall glass of sangria. Service is generally very good, but there have been occasions over the years when I felt a little neglected. Food is primarily traditional Tex Mex with a lean toward Southwest cuisine. I'd rate the quality on most dishes I've sampled as middle-of-the-road average in a town that boasts some of the best mexican food in Texas. My wife and grown daughter love this ""cute"" little place. As former restaurant owner, I have to point out that great food and decent service will sell regardless of the ""atmospere"", but the over-all experience at La Fonda should place it pretty high on your dining list the next time you're in SA.
Pros: If you have a romantic notion of old SA Mexican dining, it's perfect.
Cons: Average food in a great Mexican food town.
