My husband and I stopped in here on 10/5/08. We had to stand in line outside to wait for a table. I saw this restaurant featured on the Food Network's show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Therefore, I was expecting the food to be great, but it wasn't. I make better food at home. We ordered sodas and we were served a 12-oz can Diet Coke and an 8-oz bottled Dr. Pepper. So there are no fountain drinks here. We had an order of onion rings as an appetizer. We were pleasantly surprised with the quantity of the order and the size of the rings themselves. They used a mild onion and the rings were crispy, but they lacked flavor (no seasoning that we could taste). I had the chicken fried steak dinner, which comes with French fries, garden salad and a roll. The chicken fried steak was large in size, but the taste could have been much better. If they used salt and pepper while cooking it, I would be completely surprised. The gravy tasted as though it was made from scratch and I thought it was good. The fries were obviously frozen and I don't think the roll was made from scratch either. The salad was on the same plate as everything else and contained no tomatoes. I had the house dressing on it and thought it was better than our waitress described. My hubby ordered a cheeseburger, which we expected would be big in size, but it was just an average size. While the patty was tender, it had no seasoning he could taste. He told me he's had comparable burgers out of vending machines before. On a positive note, the prices are reasonable and all of the staff was friendly. This is a family restaurant, which started in 1938 and has been passed down to future generations. With the decor, stepping inside here was like going back in time. The history and nostalgia was the best part of our dining experience. I seriously doubt we'll ever go back. Sorry Guy Fieri, but we were very disappointed in the food here. Pros: History & nostalgia Cons: Taste of food, area of town, small parking lot, restrooms out behind the bldg
