Review content:
Have been buying supplies and visiting this pet store for the past 7 years. The former manager and the young women who used to work here owned birds and seemed to have both knowledge of animal care and a genuine concern for their well being. The new manager is both curt and not the least bit concerned for the welfare of the animals in his care, particularly the larger parrots. Repeatedly we find pre-owned parrots with large prices on them living in the paint chipped, rusted, worn out cages that their owners must have dumped them there in. Since this store sells bird cages, it would be a good business move, as well as healthier for the birds, IF the management would let these birds live in a better home. For a $600+ bird, the store could throw in a $99 (retail) cage for at least half price. Also, these very intelligent creatures are bored to death. Bird toys are not cheap to buy, but the store gets them from China wholesale. So break open a few packages and hang them in these poor creature's bare cages. If they do not get some stimulation and something wooden to chew on, they will start plucking and you cannot sell a self mutilated parrot for very much. Also, the person buying the bird might be motivated then to buy a few more if he sees how much the bird likes it. And don't use the cheesy plastic toys--use something with wood! Parrots are big chewers. Worst of all, this store that should be able to educate customers on the proper care and feeding of the birds it sells, has the birds' food cups filled with seed! Captive birds do not get enough exercise to be eating this fat filled and non-nutritious diet all day. Seed is for outside birds, not inside parrots. They sell pellets at the store, which I buy for my parrots, so why can't the store do what is right to keep these birds healthy? If customers see the store feeding seed, they will buy the less expensive seed from the store and not the pellets. The store will sell more pellets if people see them being fed to the birds in the store. There should be signs inside the store saying--"Don't feed the birds: a diet of seed as they will get fatty liver disease. Buy pellets!" Birds will be healthier and store will make $$. I do not go into this store as often as I used to because it breaks my heart to see a parrot that is 10 years old being sold there and no one can tell you its name. It would make the bird much easier to handle for anyone purchasing the poor thing if the bird was talked to using the name it has come to know. How can the store know the bird's age, but not its name? Makes you wonder how they got this bird. I would feel much more confident buying an animal from people who demonstrated sincere caring for the animals rather than just squeezing as many dollars out of them as possible. A $3 toy hung in a scared bird's cage would mean a lot to a creature dumped in a crowded, brightly lit place that has no understanding of what happened to its family. I really hope there is some improvement soon in the way these animals are kept .
