***** OUT OF TOWNERS BEWARE!!!! ***** My employee showed up at 3 PM in need of brake service. when he declined service, was told he had to pay $80 or "the Van wasn't going anywhere" My employee Juan Zamora went to this shop at close to 3PM on Jan, 13th. He was given a quote of over $900.00. Since we recently had the brakes serviced, and rotors replaced by Goodyear, I instructed my employee to go down the street to Goodyear for a second opinion. when Juan told Baker Auto Repair that he needed to get another opinion, they got upset and very mad, and demanded $80.00 or they were not going to give the van back. I called and talked with Dan, who said he was the father in law of the owner. Dan told me that his guys do not work for free, and that they are on commision, and that they were doing us a favor by even helping us so late in the evening. While I understand what he was trying to explain, my problem and reason for complaint is that there was NO disclousure before hand regarding a fee for a quote. there were no forms or paperwork supplied to us for signature, and the inspection fee was not disclosed. the second complaint was the atttitude displayed by the company towards my employess and holding the van hostage for $80.00. I instructed Juan to pay the $80.00 and leave. In California, all reputable shops we deal with clearly state the fee -IF ANY- to give you a quote. if your from out of state, you may want to ask how much the quote fee is first.
