I didn't get to select the appraisal company when I recently re-financed my home loan, and I got the worst service ever. The appraiser who called to make an appointment became very rude when I tried to ask him questions about the value of my house. I was just trying to get a general idea, and he told me that he was going to have to let his employer know that I was asking him to break the law! I was very offended, but for some reason i went ahead and set up the appointment. You wouldn't believe the guy who showed up to appraise my house! Wearing flip flops and a pairof ripped up jeans and smacking gum! I was expecting a professional, but didn't know what to do at that point. Of course the appraisal was way low and I couldn't ge my loan, but even more surprising, the appraisal showed that the OWNERr of the company had done the appraisal, including the home inspection. Surprise! the OWNER is a lady, and she never even talked to me. When I called to complain, I got the first rude guy that had accused me of breaking the law when I talked to him the first time! I gave up and asked my mortgage company to hire another appraiser. They refused and I ended up having to go to another company and start all over. What a nightmare!
