I paid $99.95 for a diagnostic they did not even conduct, was told I needed a $450 repair, and it turns out the repair they quoted was not even the needed repair.\r \r My transmission shifter would not shift out of the “Park” position and at the same time my brake lights were suddenly inoperable. I paid $99.95 for a diagnostic and was told I would need the transmission shifter replaced, at a cost of $450 for parts and labor. I declined to have the job done because I strongly suspected they did not even do the diagnostic. The transmission shifter assembly cover did not appear to have been opened, as it would have to be if they were conducting a diagnosis. Learned of other Jeep Patriot owners having the same two problems come up at the same time, however their COMPETENT Jeep Service Department determined the fault was a faulty brake light switch. Apparently if the brake light switch is broken, the vehicle will not shift out of park because it’s not being told the driver has depressed the brake pedal- basically a safety feature. Also the brake lights were not working because the Jeep is not reading that the brake pedal is being depressed. When I called to ask about this, Stone Mountain Jeep quoted me $24 for the part and $100 for labor. I bought the part at Auto Zone for $9.95, installed it myself, and my transmission shifter and brake lights are now fully operational.\r
