Review content:
I had high hopes for this place. I had heard the food was good and reasonably priced. I had a positive first impression: cute, small restaurant / cafe type of a place. We were immediately seated at 6pm on a Saturday and drinks were brought promptly. So far, so good. We ordered entrees: slice of pizza, lasagna, and chicken piccata - one of that evening's specials. The bread and olive oil were very good. Salads were brought out and they were fine. Nothing special: lettuce, 2 cherry tomatoes; 3 skinny slices of cukes; shaved carrots. The balsamic vinaigrette dressing was tasty. Entrees came next and that's also when the disappointment arrived. My chicken piccata was very, very bland. If I shut my eyes, I would not be able to identify it as chicken or piccata. No flavor whatsoever. The sauce was lumpy and jelly-like, and lacking in any taste normally associated with piccata: lemony-butter with the saltiness from capers. Nothing. The slice of pizza looked like it was standard Italian bakery fare. I didn't try it. I was told that the lasagna was good and took my spouse's word for it. I expressed my disappointment to the waiter who came back a few minutes later to explain that "Maria", who normally preps everything, didn't make the picatta sauce, so "Jason", who was working that evening, made it. I wasn't interested in having it remade, since it was obvious to me that the replacement would be just as bland and waiting would mean eating alone and holding up my party, so I passed on that offer. It's hard to say if I'll go back but if I do, I'll probably stick to the regular menu items, hoping that there won't be any surprises with them. I almost rated this 2 stars but after re-reading my assessment, I realized that the 1-star rating of "Eh" was most fitting to my experience.
